Future IBM RING 216
Events August 11, 2010 IBM Ring 216 Teach-In and Open Performance Night!! We have some cool Teach-ins planned for the August meeting. Ken King will be teaching Tony Clark’s “Knife Through Jacket” so bring a dull dinner knife and a jacket for some hands-on lessons. President Fred Rasmussen will be teaching a 10 minute segment on “Applause” and Historian Jim Blashek will be lecturing on “the History of Magic.” In addition, Secretary Raahul Srinivasan will have a surprise teach-in for us. The last part of the meeting will be “Open Performance Night!” Here is your chance to work out those kinks in your new routines in front of a live audience or you can use this forum to prepare for the “Annual Ring 216 Close-Up Magic Competition” scheduled in October! We have 5 competitors already signed up for the event so if you are interested in joining the competition, send an email to Cal Tong (vicepresident@ring216.org).

August 9th Axel Hecklau Lecture, Presented by S.A.M. 94, 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA, 7:00 PM, Cost: $25.00 per person. You are not going to want to miss this one! S.A.M. 94 will be presenting a lecture by Axel Hecklau, creator of Newsflash, a lightning fast and extremely visual Torn and Restored Newspaper, and ColaCap, visual penetration of a bottle cap into a glass bottle, as well as other effects developed and proven in his own performances. Axel Hecklau lives in Berlin, Germany. He has already presented his lecture in more than 60 cities, including New York, Philadelphia, Vienna, Rome, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, and Berlin. Axel Hecklau has 30 years in magic, and is a well known working pro in Germany. He has competed at 15 magic competitions and won 14 prizes, including FISM 1988, 2nd place (Great Illusions). The 15th competition was FISM 2003 with a 6th place and a standing ovation for his act as an old fashioned (funny) Prussian police officer. Since 2004 he has had his own weekly close-up show called Close-Up-Club, in Berlin. If you search on YouTube for “Axel Hecklau” you will find some demo videos of his inventions. His lecture (parlour, stage and close-up) contains no “B” material. Everything is taken from his active repertoire and proofed in hundreds of shows in front of laypeople. Gene Anderson commented on his T&R Newspaper “Newsflash” as “brilliant - absolutely brilliant.” For more information about Axel and his creations, please visit one of his websites: www.axelhecklau.com (English / German) www.hecklau.de (German) www.close-up-club.de (German)
